Volume 1 in a series of boots featuring tracks used in the syndicated US radio series "The Lost Lennon Tapes", originally broadcast from Jan 1988 through March 1992. Sound quality ranges from very good to excellent.

Tracks were taken directly from the very rare Lost Lennon Tapes virgin Vinyls from the late 80's and early 90's. Today, this collection in its complete form is virtually impossible to be found.
As a Bonus we also included the ultra rare Yin & Yang album, which can be considered the very first volume of the Lost Lennon series, the one that started it all.

The Mini LPs are exact replicas of the old Bag Records Vinyls in sturdy material on par with any Japanese release, this release is FAB!

Revolution is a significantly remixed version of The Beatles single (Nicky Hopkins piano and John's guitar are not audible on this version). Good Morning Good Morning is John's original demo from early 1967. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except  Me And My Monkey (officially known as Come On Come On at the time of this recording) is the Beatles demo version. Everyone Had A Hard Year is John's demo from 1968; this song was eventually incorporated into I've Got A Feeling from Get Back/Let It Be.
Attica State, The Luck Of The Irish and John Sinclair are live stereo recordings from the 'Free John Sinclair Rally' that took place in ann Arbor, Michigan on December 10, 1971. Clean-Up Time is an unreleased mix of the Double Fantasy track.
Power to The People is an early alternate take. I'm A Man, Brown-Eyed Handsome Man (interpolating Get Back), the train-of-thought recitation Twas A Night Like Ethel Merman and the oldies Medley (featuring Beyond The Sea in broken French) are Dakota cassette recordings. The three final tracks on the album are some of John's Bob Dylan parodies. Serve Yourself features a piano accompaniment and 'clean' lyrics. the more notorious guitar-accompanied version with considerably saltier words may be found on the Yin Yang LP (Bag Records 5071).

Dear Prudence is the 1968 demo. Jealous Guy is a studio outtake from the Imagine sessions. God Save Oz is the original acoustic demo. Rock Island Line is the electric guitar version recorded at the Dakota. Real Life is a piano demo recorded at the Dakota. Side Two chronicles the evolution of the Double Fantasy track Starting Over, beginning with the Dakota demos of the unreleased songs My Life, Don't Be crazy and The Worst Is Over. Next John runs the studio band through the song. A rough take of the song is presented here as it would be heard from inside John's vocal booth. The side concludes with an early outtake of the number with a rough vocal.

The earliest track appearing in this compilation is an alternate take of Cold Turkey (being as this track comes from the only known acetate some ticks and pops are audible--it does not represent a defect in the record). Mind Games is an alternate take with a rough vocal. Tight A$ is the original demo. One Of The Boys (Take 2) is a Dakota recording of an unreleased song. The remainder of this volume highlights teh Double Fantasy/Milk And Honey era. Four demos are featured: Dear Yoko (recorded in Bermuda; double tracked vocals & guitar); I Don't Wanna Face It (on guitar); I'm Steeping Out (with guitar and drum machine); Watching The Wheels (recorded at the Dakota with John on the piano). The version of Woman
on side one demonstrates how the song sounded in John's vocal booth during it's preliminary run-throughs.
This track is preceded by some candid banter between John and those present in the studio with him.
John waxes nostalgic over the old days in the studio with George Martin, etc. The version of woman that closes the album is a studio outtake.

Basic good ol' rock 'n' roll is the major theme of this installment of the Lost Lennon Tapes. To kick things off
John and The Elephant's Memory Band rip through chuck Berry's Roll Over Beethoven. Continuing along in the same vein, they next tackle Jerry Lee Lewis with a medley of his numbers, Whole Lotta Shakin' and It'll Be Me. Some never before-aired outtakes of radio spots for The One-To-One Concerts are next one of which incorporates a raucous live-in-the-studio take of New York City mercifully we've edited out as much of obnoxious Geraldo Riveria's comments as possible). God Save Oz is the complete demo, with vocals by John. Beatles John and Rolling Stone Mick introduce John's back-up band on the legendary Rolling Stones Rock 'N' Roll Circus (Eric Clapton, lead; Keith Richard, bass; Mitch Mitchell, drums; Lennon, rhythm). An instrumental jam by that line-up is then performed. (The definitive recordings of the Rock 'N' Roll Circus
performances of Yer Blues and the wild jam with violin Her Blues can be found on the Yin Yang LP, Bag Records #5071).
Buddy Holly's influence on John is in evidence on side two of this collection. For starters we go way back to 1958 and present the one-of-a-kind acetate by The Quarrymen (John on lead vocal), That'll Be The Day. Unfortunately, only the beginning and ending of this track are available, but at least it's presented here in the best quality and longest version to date. The next group of songs (tracks 2-7--all originally made famous by Holly) were performed live with acoustic guitar in the St. Regis Hotel in New York in 1971. They comprise part of the soundtrack to a John & Yoko experimental film called Clock. On Volume Four of this series we featured some of John's Bob Dylan parodies. The Dylan connection is explored again this time around, first with Lennon's Dakota tape of the folk standard Corrina, Corrina-- John's rendition is apparently based on the arrangement used on the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Another of John's many Serve Yourself takes is next. But the real coup is the soundtrack to the outtakes of John's appearance in Dylan's film Eat The Document. John only appears in the finished film for a few seconds, but all of the dialog between himself and Bob that was filmed is presented here. You won't hear this stuff on the radio--Dylan is suppressing it and will not allow it to be aired. He probably doesn't like the part where you can hear him vomit. Our side closers are both Dakota recordings. Side one concludes with Lennon's 'mind movie' material, Maurice DuPont-Agent Provocateur Du Jour, R.E.T. (further adventures of which are slated for future volumes of this series). Side two's capper is a father-son collaboration.

1. Oh Woman, Oh Why? (B-side)
This is NOT the promo mix. The promo mix was in mono and had no echo on vocals. This is the usual commercial release. The Promo version can be found on Artifacts III (although this is a poor dub and it jumps!) and on “John Paul George Ringo in The 1970s” (Melvin Records) as well as on the original Promo single from the US (Apple PRO 6194).
If anyone has either the Melvin bootleg or the Apple promo can they please post it and we’ll put the correct version into “New Moon”

2. Letting Go (single mix)
When it came to release Letting Go as a single, Paul got Alan Parsons to edit and remix the album version. Subsequently, the single version starts with an organ glissando has an edited introduction and fades earlier than the album version in addition to having a punchier mix.

3. Beware My Love (Out-Fake - album version faded in later to approximate but not equal the single release)
Out-fake constructed from album version (you can still hear the organ in intro not on single version). When released as the B-side to Let’Em In the organ coda found at the beginning of the album version was omitted since this was crossfaded with the start of the guitar on the album, on this, the single version the guitar is faded in later.

4. Girl’s School (B-side) NOT the promo edit.
The usual release found on the flip of Mull of Kintyre and also on the 1993 CD issue of London Town. The promo DJ edit WAS available as a bonus track on the 1989 UK CD issue.

5. Take It Away (Out-Fake)
Out-fake constructed from album version. (The opening drum has been edited). The fade is the same as the album version whilst on the single the horns only repeated the phrase twice and not three time. A similar out-fake (called the Extended Version) was available on Suitable For Framing bootleg LP. The proper single edit was available also on Wingspan.

6. The Girl Is Mine (Promo Edit)
From the US promo 45 (Epic 34-03288). Edits out the “talking” part (but is not a straightforward cut). Fade out is slightly longer than the commercial release.

7. Ode To A Koala Bear (Australian Mix ?)
The original posting had a glitch. Was re-posted by myself from Yellow Dog’s Oobu Joobu Volume 16 (where it was a bonus track), on which CD was stated that this mix was available only in Australia on a 12” single (not confirmed). Who knows if this is true? It certainly is a different mix, though.

8. No More Lonely Night (7” Special Dance Mix by Arthur Baker)
Originally issued on the second issue of the 7” single (both in UK and US) and later available as a bonus track on the 1992 UK issue of Give My Regards To Broadstreet CD.

9. No More Lonely Night (Extended Version)

VOLUME 2

1. Say, Say, Say (12” John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez Mix)
This version, along with a 7 minute instrumental version, were issued in the UK and the US on a 12” single. Never officially released on CD.

2. Do They Know It’s Christmas (12” Remix)
Paul had originally taped a spoken message. On the 7” version, Paul’s message (along with lots of others) was used for the B –side over an instrumental version of the track – the whole thing called “Feed The World”. The messages were also used in the mix of the A-side song on the 12” version (UK & US).

3. My Carnival (Party Mix)
Recorded in 1975 (with many overdubs later), it was officially released 10 years later as the B-side to “Spies Like Us”. The 12” version was a mix done by Gary Langan called the “Party Mix”. Never officially released on CD.

4. Press (“Video Edit”)
The story of the “Press” remixes is a convoluted one not just because of the number or versions available (6 official and 1 on bootleg) but because label timing and details are often wrong. All US vinyl albums of Press To Play, the CD releases and the original UK vinyl album had the standard Bert Bevans and Steve Forward mix. The “Video Edit” chops out 3 segments from this standard version to end up with a version of 3’35”. Was available on a European compilation CD at one time.

5. Press (Hugh Padham mix)
There are 2 versions of this mix available : the longer one from the 10” UK release (and the 2nd UK album pressing) and the shorter version (fades out earlier) from the 1st issue UK 7”. The version here is the longer one.

6. Press (Video Soundtrack)
Although the 2nd issue of the UK 12” stated on the cover that it was the “Video Soundtrack”, in fact the track on the record was the standard one. In fact the only difference between the 1st issue and 2nd issue 12” (UK) is the cover. So this track is the same as the one found on the “Press To Play” CD – though here it fades a little earlier to avoid the surface noise of the 12”.

7. Press (12” Dub Mix)
A second mix by Bevans and Forward available as an extra track on the 12” issues. Mostly instrumental.

8. Pretty Little Head (7” Mix)
Remix by Larry Alexander. Available on UK 7” single and on US Promo (SPRO 9928). On the latter it was called the “Rock Radio Remix”.

9. Pretty Little Head (12” Extended version)
John “Tokes” Potoker remix from UK 12” single. At the wrong speed on “New Moon” – runs too fast so that although the whole of the 6’56” are on the track plays it all in 6’44”.

10. Angry (12” Remix)
From the b-side of the 12” UK issue of “Pretty Little Head”. Also on B-side of “Stranglehold” US single and on promo. On the later it was called the “Rock Radio Remix”.

The Title is self explanatory, It's a 6-CD-SET With every single B-Side Paul McCartney released, 7' , 12', and even 78rpm compacts.The brilliant surprise here though, is that all these singles are from the master tapes and from the original virgin Vinyls and with CD-Quality (Don't ask how they got It).Virtually impossible to find, but extremely worth-buying.Great, but great replay value, you can never get tired of listening to these gems, moreover now, that they are all reunited in one single package and with excellent quality.

It's very difficult to find the extended version of ONCE UPON A LONG AGO of more than 6 minutes, more over with this great sound quality! It was only released in 12 LP format a long time ago, never reissued, nor released in CD format. So, I consider it to be core!

I'm a big fan of "Walls and Bridges" and rate it amongst Lennon's best solo works. Yes he was coming out of his "Lost Weekend", but that's the whole point, while there's darkness on the album, reflecting his lows at the time, his optimism carried him through, the whole painting a picture of an artist caught between the angels and devils, with the angels just about winning.
This extensive bootleg selection makes an excellent companion to the official release, topped and tailed by two spoken radio-spots for the album, reflecting not only his returning good humor, but also his belief in the music.
Tracks 2 - 11 are near-masters, usually just missing orchestration, a horn section or even the contribution of Elton John.
I was surprised to learn that Ringo's hit cover of the Platters' "Only You" was almost a note-for-note cover of this demo, plus I've always liked the gonzo title track to Starr's "Goodnight Vienna", with the demo here tracking its origins back to the old unreleased Beatles track "What's The New Mary Jane".
Tracks 12-19 are solo demos, not unnaturally lacking some dynamism, but certainly not commitment, particular a fragile, fraught version of "Going Down On Love", while in "#9 Dream", he perhaps reveals a source by quoting from Thunderclap Newman's "Something In The Air" before ending up safe and sound with his slight children's song "Mucho Mungo", later covered by Harry Nilsson.
Tracks 20 and 21 fall somewhere in between the former two categories, being more than demos but less than out-takes.
Some tracks though, are conspicuous by their absence, like "Scared" and in particular the best track on the original album (and JL's own favourite) set-closer "Nobody Loves You When You're Down And Out" although from the evidence here, I dread to think how harrowing it might sound in the raw.
Unlike the earlier-recorded "Rock And Roll" sessions, there are no signs of drunken debauchery here and the prognosis is definitely good, Lennon was definitely on the way back as these interesting and entertaining, (if for fans only) recordings bear out.
